Installation
Installation ceremony was held on 3rd July 2014 with the blessings of the Chief Guest, Shri MP Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor of Punjab. The new team with Rtn. ML Gupta as President, Office Bearers and Board Of Directors took over for the Year 2014-15.
1. It was a glorious and memorable moment for me to take over as the President. The theme given by RI President Rtn. Gary C. K. Huang was ‘Light Up Rotary’. Vision is the art of seeing the invisible, with this thought I along with the team 2014-15 decided to work for the society where ever it was needed.
2. Five Avenues are given under which the projects have to be executed which are as under:-
(a) Club Service.
(b) Vocational Service
(c) Community Service
(d) International Service
(e) Youth Service
3. Keeping these Five Avenues in mind, the projects were undertaken accordingly.
The first and foremost thing was to expand the RCS Family where we inducted a total of five new members, thus increasing Membership by 15%.
The members of the club attended various Distt Functions enthusiastically in large number along with their spouses.
A total of three Interact Clubs were installed at Shemrock School, Mohali, Lawrence School, Mohali and Millennium School, Mohali, one Rotaract Club and one RCC at Chhoti Perch.
4. Projects Under Five Avenues of Service.
(a) Club Service. Director- Rtn. Col.
Iqbal Singh
(i) Club Assembly/ Business Meetings, Board meetings and Weekly meeting were held regularly where in number of Guest speakers were invited to speak on wide range of topics of interest like medical, social causes, spiritual, Rotary knowledge etc. Quiz and entertainment meetings were organised to involve the members and their
families
(ii) RCS celebrated all major festivals like Holi, Diwali, X-Mass Gurupurab etc.
(iii) The Club had exclusive website and weekly bulletin uploaded covering the Club
activities along with Rotary knowledge Eight hard copies of the weekly bulletin were taken out Secretary’s home.
(iv) A Wide coverage was given in several English, Hindi and Punjabi newspapers along with Sector News every week.
(v) RCS organised District Golf Tournament at Chandigarh Golf Club on 1st March 2015. Sixty members from various Rotary Clubs of District 3080 participated.
(vi) One potluck dinner and two picnics were organised. One was joint Zone-3 picnic and the other was exclusive for RCS member and their Familie
(a) Vocational
Service. Director – Rtn. Harshvir Jaspal
(i) Before the start of the meeting Four Way Test was recited in every meeting.
(ii) Vocational Awards were presented to three persons for outstanding service to the
community, excellence and committment in their vocation.
(iii) A Career Guidance was provided by our members from different vocations to the First year students of UBS, Punjab University, MBA students of Punjab University, B.Tech students of PTU Nalanda Institute and class X students of Shamrock School, Mohali.
(iv) Recognised Nation Builders – Two teachers, one from Govt Middle School and another from Govt High School were recognised for their excellent record and were given a Certificate of Recognition along with cash award.
(v) RVTC at Chhoti Perch was reconstituted where girls / ladies were encouraged to learn while they earn. About 40 plus girls benefitted and they made various items and RCS Members helped them to sell.
(vi) RCS Members helped Hamari Kaksha Students in English, Hindi, Science and Computers at Govt Nursery School, Sector 7, Chandigarh.
(c) Community Service. Director – Rtn. Dr. G.S.Kochhar
(i) Financial help to three needy students was given -.
(aa) Seema, a 2nd year student of Home Sc College was given to meet the Hostel expenses – Rs 30,000/-
(ab) Jaspreet Kaur, a blind student of B. Ed course was given
Rs 6,300/- to meet the hostel expenses.
(ac) Yash Kumar of MDAV and Indu Elizabeth of St Stephen’s School, Togan were given Rs 20,000/- each to meet tuition fee and other expenses for one year.
(ii) Financial support to two nursery teachers of Jeevan Mukt Vidayala of Jagatpura were provided Rs 18,000/- each as fee for one year Nursery Training Course, without which they would have lost their jobs.
(iii) In Save a Life Project undertaken by RCS, the following patients were provided financial help to undergo treatment at PGI, Chandigarh :-
(aa) Santro Devi – Heart replacement surgery – Rs 25,000/-
(ab) Nitin – Heart Surgery – Rs 60,000/-
(ac) Kaka – Juvenile Arthritis – Rs 25,000/-
(iv) RCS adopted village Chhoti Perch which was the most backward village bordering Chandigarh RCS since 2000. Every year new projects were undertaken to improve the living condition of the villagers. In 2014- 15, benches for sitting were provided at the cremation ground.
(v) A new RCC was constituted to help in various development projects.
(vi) RCS organised various medical camps – Free Dental Check-up and about 338 boys and girls were checked and given free toothbrush and toothpaste.
(vii) Rubella Vaccination Camp was held for young girls of Chhoti Perch village, and 35 girls were given Vaccination injection.
(vii) Free Eye Check-up Camp was organised where 150 students of Hamari Kaksha benefitted from the eye check-up camp.
(vii) A free Mammography check-up was organised for the ladies of Hamari Kaksha.
(vii) A number of awareness talks were organised on Breast and Cervical Cancer at Hamari Kaksha 150 girls and ladies benefitted.
Cervical Cancer Talk – at Chhoti Perch – 30 ladies participated. Polio Awareness Talk on NID was given to ladies and men of Chhoti Perch village. Children below five years were motivated to take Polio drops, Caps, badges and posters were distributed. Students and ladies of Jagatpura and Hamari Kaksha were given a talk on personal Health and Hygiene.
(viii) In Literacy Mission RCS Members provided coaching in English, Hindi, Science and Computers at Hamari Kaksha, Sector 7, Chandigarh, regularly.
(ix) In Earn While You Learn a workshop for the ladies from under- privileged section of society and mothers of children at Hamari Kaksha, Food Preservation and Nutrition workshop was organised where 30 ladies learnt the method of making Jams, Pickles, Squashes etc.
They were given certificates and prizes.
(x) Two Annapurna Meals were organised for 150 children of Jeevan Mukt Vidayalaya, Nayagoan and 170 children of Hamari Kaksha were given meals. DG Col D Patnaik and First Lady Mrs Taposhi Patnaik helped in serving meals along with RCS Members.
(xi) RCS distributed woollen Sweaters, 170 sweaters to the children of Hamari Kaksha and 80 sweaters to children of Chhoti Perch.

(i) RCS participated in Rotary International Medical Mission
where three doctors of RCS participated in medical mission at Rawanda. RCS
members attended meetings on their trips to foreign countries and exchanged
flags.

(i) Interact Club – New team of Interactors
were installed at Shamrock School, Mohali and Lawrence School, Mohali. New
Interact Club Chartered at the New Millenium School, Mohali
(ii) A new Rotaract Club team was installed.
(iii) To promote voluntary Blood Donation the annual feature of our Club of forming a human chain was carried out on 01st Oct. Along with it a Candle Light March by the children of various schools of tri-city along with RCS members and Rotractors for spreading awareness of Blood Donation to commemorate 50 years of completion of Rotary Blood Bank Society was held.
(iv) Save Environment Rally was held at Jagatpura village and Sector 48, Chandigarh. Interactors, Rotractors and RCS Members participated and Tree Plantation was done at Shamrock School, Mohali, Gurukul Global School by RCS Interactors and Rotractors.
(v) Visit to Industry, HT Publication Press and Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Mohali of Interactors was carried out
(vi) RCS along with Interactors celebrated various festivals like Diwali, Independence day Basant Panchmi, Gurupurab etc.
(vii) The Interactors of Shamrock School, Mohali, were made aware of Rotary Polio Eradication Mission and an amount of Rs 6000/- was collected by the children which was forwarded to the Rotary Foundation.
(viii) Inter-School Declamation Contest :- Interactors of our three schools along children from 24 schools of Zone-3 participated in the Declamation Contest organised by Rotary chandigarh Central
The year was enjoyable as there is no better gift than to see the smiles of the underprivileged children. The best part of my tenure was that most of the projects were on going projects
