ROTARY YEAR 1996-97
HIGHLIGHT OF THE IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES
Rotaract Club
The District Governor, Rtn J.P.S. Sibia, formally inaugurated a new Rotaract club on 3 September 1996. All the Rotarians along with their families joined together to wish our Rotaractors all the best.
First District Officers
The young club got its first District officers in its very second year with Rtn Dharinder Tayal becoming Co-Chairman District Membership Development and Extension committee and Rtn Himesh Sabhlok in the District International Service Committee.
Rotary Foundation
Rtn. Tejinder Singh presented a cheque of US$ 1000 to Rotary International President Nominee Rtn. Jim Lacy during his visit to Chandigarh on 16th January 1997.
Paul Harris Fellow
Rtn. Himesh Sabhlok became a Paul Harris Fellow and four new members became Paul Harris Sustaining Members on 16 January 1997.
Group Study Exchange
A team from the country of Kangaroos, RI district 9550, with Major Ray Fountleroy as their leader, visited our club. On 21 January 1997. They gave us a wonderful presentation. We also hosted a reunion of the past and new members of our GSE team.
Special Olympics
4th North West Zone Special Olympics for the mentally handicapped children was organised by the Area Committee for two days, beginning 1 February 1997. Our club took the responsibility to supervise food distribution and help in ensuring that the children have meals properly.
District Conference
A two days “Conference of vision and Open mind” was organised by our club along with Rotary club of SAS Nagar on 8th and 9th February 1997 at the PGI Auditorium. It was a very planned and efficiently executed even. In which about 1100 Rotarians from 58 clubs participated. PRIP Raja Saboo, Chairman of Rotary Foundation inaugurated the conference. PDG Rtn. K.R. Ravindaran from Sri Lanka represented the RI President Rtn. Luis Vicente Giay. Our club collected a donation of Rs one lakh twenty five thousand for the conduct of the event.
Honours and Awards
1.All India Special Olympics Association, New Delhi, awarded Rtn. Prithi Vohra a certificate of appreciation for the excellent services rendered during the Special Olympics held for the mentally handicapped children.
2. Rtn Himesh Sabhlok was given district award for community service.
3.Our Club got Citation from RI President for excellent services rendered to the community.
4.Rtn Sneh Popli was given the best Club President’s award.
