HISTORY OF ROTARY CHANDIGARH SHIVALIK
CHARTER
It was during the middle of the year 1993 that the then District Governor of Rotary District 3080, Rtn Y.P. Das, keeping in view the growth of the City beautiful, mooted the idea of formation of another Rotary club.
He entrusted the task to Rtn. Dr P.S. Chari, President Rotary club, Chandigarh to act as his special representative and Colonel Harsharan Singh Sandhu, Retd to assist in the formation of the new club.
Rotary club Chandigarh Shivalik, as a provisional club, came into being on 2 August 1994. Its first meeting was held at Hotel Pankaj, Sector 22, Chandigarh. Rtn Colonel Harsharan Singh Sandhu and Rtn Sneh Popli were elected as the Charter President and Secretary respectively.
Membership application was submitted through the District Governor Rtn Davinder Kalra on 12 April 1995 to Rotary International.
President Rotary International informed the charter president that the club has been admitted as the member of the Rotary International and granted Charter No. 30770 dated 23 May 1995 with 30 charter members.
Charter presentation ceremony was held on 14 July 1995 at Hotel Quality Inn, North Park. District Governor Yoginder Dewan presented the charter to Col Harsharan Singh Sandhu, Retd. Mr V.K. Duggal, Advisor the Administrator, was the chief guest. PRIP Rtn Raja Saboo delivered principal address.
GENERAL
Projects like health Camps, Polio Pulse, Vocational Awards, distribution of clothes, were undertaken by all the Presidents for the benefit of the weaker section of our community. during their Rotary year
To avoid repetition, they are not being mentioned as projects under taken by the Presidents each year
